The Companies Registration Office (CRO) recently held its latest Stakeholders’ Meeting, sharing a number of useful updates for anyone involved in running or supporting companies in Ireland,
Here is a summary of some of the points discussed:
Company Formations on the Rise
There has been a notable increase in new company registrations in Ireland. Formation numbers are up by 8.5%, rising from 10,398 to 11,291 compared to the same period in 2024.
Formation Timelines Holding Steady
Despite pressures, the CRO continues to meet its target of processing company formations within five working days. This is welcome news for professionals managing tight timelines.
Business Name Registrations
The registration of business names is currently taking approximately four weeks. Businesses planning to register a trading name should factor this into their timelines.
Involuntary Strike-Off of Companies
- The CRO will shortly begin the strike-off of Irish companies that have not filed with the Central Register of Beneficial Owners (RBO).
- Strike off of Irish companies which have no recorded directors is continuing.
- Strike-offs for companies late in filing annual returns will recommence shortly.
Audit Exemption Changes Pending
The pending changes to the rules on automatic loss of audit exemption, contained in the Companies (Corporate Governance, Enforcement and Regulatory Provisions) Act 2024, have not yet been introduced, but are expected to come into effect shortly.
