Business Name Registration

Under the Business Names Act of 1963 the registration of a business name is obligatory if any individual or partnership (whether individuals or bodies corporate) or any body corporate carries on business under a name other than their own true names. On a more practical level banks will not open accounts in names different from their customers unless they have registered a Business Name. Similarly the Registry of Domain names will ask that a business name be registered where a domain name application is different from the applicants name.
